Despite being one of the wealthiest men in Lagoa da Italianinha, Dr. Carneiro is known for being a miser—even to an extreme degree.
One night, he brought home just a single piece of cheese to share among himself and his six children: Monalisa, Josenilda, Gilvania, Branquinha, Michele, and Marco Aurélio—the city councilman.
Branquinha complained:
"Is that it? One piece of cheese for everyone?"
Dr. Carneiro said:
"Stop being ungrateful. We can't afford to be wasteful."
Marco said:
"That’s why I have dinner at Uncle Moab’s place so often. If it were up to you, we’d starve to death."
"Oh, get lost, you ingrate."
Despite the complaints, they ate the cheese that night.
