Samuel and the Blind Woman

One day, Samuel—who had been playing in the mud—saw a blind woman named Gilmara walking alone through the streets of Lagoa da Italianinha.

He said:

"Can I help you, ma'am?"

"I’d appreciate it..."

"Where do you live?"

"I live in Vila Lusitânia, in a little house there."

"It’s close by; let’s go."

Samuel walked Gilmara home, and some neighbors found it odd, as they thought he was a street kid. But Marcella, one of the neighbors, said:

"He isn't a street kid; he's wealthy—his mother, Valéria, lives in London. He just likes going around like that—casual and looking a bit disheveled."
