One night, the beggar Rita de Cássia decided to keep company with the lonely beggar Solange. The thing is, it was Solange's 46th birthday, but she was alone.
Rita, known for having the mind of a child – she's 43 years old, but has the mind of a five-year-old – noticed Solange was sad and said:
"What's wrong, Dona Solange?"
"I'm getting older today, and I'm lonely."
"Oh, congratulations, Dona Solange. Can my daughter Dalila and I keep you company?"
"Of course you can, dear."
Solange was sad, and Rita de Cássia hugged her, saying:
"I love you as if you were my own mother."
"Thank you, you know?"
It wasn't long before Solange fell asleep. Rita de Cássia said to her doll:
"Dalila, she's asleep." I'll put her to bed and then I'll go to sleep too.
Rita laid Solange on the ground, and then she herself lay down and fell asleep on that deserted street. Solange slept happily, for her birthday had been worthwhile, because she had the company of someone.
