Regina and the piano students

Around 1785, in Vila Rica, Regina found herself teaching other young women to play the piano. Besides Milena, a young woman from an aristocratic family in what was then the capital of Minas Gerais, the recently arrived Jacilene, a French woman who had come to live there, was among the many interested in learning piano from Regina.

One day, while Regina watched her student Milena playing the piano, Jacilene, sitting nearby, watched as her colleague played. Jacilene said:

"I always wanted to learn piano, but my father never wanted me to."

"That's a shame, because playing the piano is wonderful," said Milena.

Regina replied:

"Now you've arrived from France, and I'm here willing to teach you, too."

Jacilene said:

"But is it just me and her?"

"No, there are many other students, people from Vila Rica and even from other cities. I usually give a discount to poorer people. I truly wish that more people could learn this wonderful art."

Milena said:

"I still want to go to Vienna and meet Mozart."

"They say he's a genius, I've heard about him in France too," said Jacilene.

"If you meet him, don't forget to mention me," said Regina.

"Okay..."

Milena continued playing the piano, observed by Jacilene and her teacher Regina.
