Barefoot people plan to create a group in the city

One afternoon, at Marlene's snack bar in the Lagoa da Italianinha bus station, an unusual encounter took place. Branco, a young student who lives in Alto do Cruzeiro, councilwoman Vanessa and her cousin Valdenes, businesswoman Karla Patrícia and her niece Marília do Acordeon, who, however different they may seem, have something in common: they all go barefoot.

The idea of the meeting was to form a group among them. Councilwoman Vanessa and Branco were the originators of the idea. Vanessa said:

- Here in this city, many people walk like us, and even the mayor herself goes barefoot, but we are still the target of discrimination. They call us beggars, or crazy. I myself hear a lot of things and am barred from many places, and I'm a councilwoman.

- And what do you intend, Vanessa? - said Valdenes.

- To found a group to defend our rights. We will fight to be respected. I'm even willing to talk to the mayor, too. I'm in opposition to her, but we share this same habit; we need our voices to be heard.

Karla Patrícia said:

- In my natural products store, everyone there walks barefoot, just like me. They were rejected for other jobs just because of that.

- It will be very good, I want to be present. I myself am also very discriminated against because of my lifestyle. - said Marília do Acordeon.

- If you don't mind me asking... what could this society be called? - asked Valdenes.

- Society of Free Feet - said Branco.

- Does anyone object? - asked Vanessa.

- Of course not, I liked the name - said Valdenes, joined by Karla and Marília.

Vanesse said:

- We have to defend our rights. Whoever wants to wear shoes, wear them, and whoever doesn't want to, doesn't, and that's it. We have to be free; shoes shouldn't be mandatory.

- I'm with you, Vanessa, very well!

- And let's invite more people who like to live with their feet on the ground to join us. I want this group to start soon. At the next meeting, I want many more people!-  said Branco.

They spent many hours there talking about the idea.
