One day, walking through the central streets of Goldenville, young Vernon saw his beloved Brielle inside a parked car. He approached and said:
"Brielle, you here? Did you leave the house today?"
"Yes, my father's around. He went to buy something over there."
"I see... it's just that you hardly ever leave the house."
"Yes, that's true, we're coming from Philadelphia, where I went for a consultation, that's all, and maybe my father doesn't even like seeing you talking to me."
Vernon said:
"I understand, Brielle."
"Look, he's coming over there."
Vernon said goodbye to her, pretended nothing was wrong, and stayed nearby, close to a diner. Nevin, Brielle's father, got into the car and immediately got behind the wheel. He didn't see the young man, nor did he see when his daughter discreetly waved to him, which he also discreetly returned.
