Since she began living on the streets in 1999, Solange has remained resilient, as if accepting her fate. Although she has had the opportunity to leave the streets twice, she refused and continued living outdoors.
She was only 17 years old when she became a beggar, and today, at 46, she remains so, despite all the criticism she receives. She has been called a "vagrant" and "crazy." But Solange did not want to abandon her other street friends, especially Fábia.
One of Solange's peculiar characteristics is that she only accepts food, she doesn't usually accept money or shoes - she feels good walking barefoot - and she usually sleeps on quiet streets. According to her, it's better for "praying" and "meditating."
Solange walks the streets in front of people who usually condemn her or turn a blind eye to her real situation.
Furthermore, Solange really likes to eat, and has a special preference for tapioca. The beggar often says:
- Whoever wants to win me over through my stomach, make me tapioca.
Solange has a strong personality and isn't afraid of anything, but she's also known for being generous. She doesn't usually eat alone when she receives food, and often shares it with another homeless person nearby.
