In Lagoa da Italianinha, many people wondered how it could be that two sisters, raised in the same house and identical in appearance, were so different from each other in behavior. Malu, with her laid-back hippie style, contrasted sharply with Wéllia, with her quite elegant demeanor.
Malu, whose real name is Maria Luísa, was born just one minute after Wéllia. Daughters of Selma and granddaughters of the Italian Arthur, the two grew up together, but while Malu tried to show love for her sister, Wéllia seemed bothered by her. In reality, Wéllia never liked the idea of having a sister, especially a twin. Both grew up in luxury, but Malu always had pity for humbler people. Wéllia, on the other hand, had closed herself off in her own world and always wanted to harm her sister and take everything from her.
Both became entrepreneurs. Malu, who is a veterinarian, opened a clinic, while Wéllia, who is an advertising professional, owns an agency. The lives of the two are so marked by competition that they even competed for the love of the same man. When they were both in their early twenties, they met Vinícius, who initially dated Malu. But around 2006, Wéllia managed to separate them with a lie, and some time later, he dated Wéllia until 2008. That same year, Wéllia married Horácio and had a daughter, Alice, in 2009, the same year that Vinícius moved to Rio de Janeiro, from where he returned in 2025.
Malu is known for being laid-back. She wears hippie clothes, and sometimes walks in sandals, other times barefoot. Wéllia, on the other hand, is very chic in her way of dressing. Malu usually enters the water fully clothed, and Wéllia usually enters wearing swimwear, but curiously, she has some unhygienic habits, which she generally practices when she is under chronic stress, in addition to smoking and drinking excessively. Malu, on the other hand, neither smokes nor drinks. Furthermore, Malu is very calm and smiling, while Wéllia is explosive and intolerant.
Besides her malice, Wéllia also has serious mental disorders, inherited from part of her family. Her aunt, Valquíria, for example, her cousin Cássia, as well as Aunt Sandra, her great-grandmother Lanie's aunt, have histories of mental problems.
The two do not live together. Malu lives alone above her own veterinary clinic, and Wéllia lives with her mother Selma, her daughter Alice, and her aunt Valquíria, in a middle-class house. But Alice, curiously, even though she is Wéllia's daughter, takes after her aunt Malu, and feels more connected to her, as aunt and niece are very close, which makes Wéllia pathologically jealous.
The feeling in the town is also the opposite: Malu is much loved and cherished, while Wéllia is much hated. And so live the most famous twins of Lagoa da Italianinha.
