Another day arrived that marked another birthday for the beggar Andreza, turning 48, the same year she will complete ten years living on the streets. Sitting at the bus station, accompanied only by her faithful friend, the stuttering beggar Guilherme, some people passed by her, offering her alms, or else, words of contempt. Quite dirty, with a strong smell of urine, armpits, and foot odor, and with bad breath, some even said she was "quite ugly" and used to compare her to other creatures devoid of beauty.
Nothing like her glamorous past in Caruaru, where until 2016, she lived in the world of fashion. She even became a model, quite in demand. Andreza, a beautiful brunette with straight hair, attracted attention on the catwalks and even in TV commercials.
But everything changed in 2016: she was engaged to Hamilton, the owner of the modeling agency, and her younger sister, Carla, who had always been very envious of Andreza, joined forces with Hamilton and stole everything from her. Andreza, finding herself homeless, fell into depression and entered a self-destructive cycle.
Going to Lagoa da Italianinha, she joined other homeless people, such as the brothers Guilherme and Valdenes, who still lived on the streets. In 2022, Valdenes left the streets, but Guilherme, who had fallen in love with Andreza, preferred to stay by her side. Andreza refused to leave the streets and no longer wants to live under a roof. She also rejects the idea of marriage, preferring the fate of growing old, alone, single, and on the streets.
Andreza only sees Guilherme as a brother and suffers knowing that he is in love with her. She smokes and drinks excessively, often urinates in her pants, and when she showers, she doesn't take off her clothes or shoes, remaining soaked afterward.
Despite all this, Andreza is considered a good person, often even helpful to others. But for many, she is cruel to herself. Not to mention that, as far as is known, Andreza developed a disorder after the situation she experienced almost a decade ago, which would explain her self-destructive behavior. Andreza justifies her actions as "avoiding attracting scoundrels, sleazy men, and opportunists." To complicate matters, Andreza still hasn't forgiven her sister and her ex-fiancé, who also haven't repented for what they did to her.
On her birthday, only Guilherme congratulated her. Valdenes even went to the bus station, where they both were, and congratulated Andreza, giving her food and some change. When Valdenes left, she said:
- It-it-seems that you... you love Val-Val-denes very much.
- No, not at all. He's kind and helpful, even after leaving the streets, he hasn't forgotten us.
- I-I know...
- Guilherme, stop being silly, I don't want to date anyone, I want to be alone forever. I want your company, yes, but as a friend and brother.
