If you’ve ever found yourself wondering, "What if a story spanned centuries, oceans, and ways of life?" then welcome to the "Breaking Boundaries" series.
This photo right here sums it all up. Ten lives. One shared sunset. Waist-deep water. Some fully clothed, others in swimwear. Some caked in mud, others clean. Because here, no one needs to look "presentable" to have their story told.
Meet the people in the water with us:
ALICE in pink: the curious youngest. She jots everything down in a soggy notebook.
SAMUEL in a torn blue shirt: the bespectacled boy who sees the world differently. He’s always asking "why?"
JOSIANE in white: strong, quiet. She’s worked hard all her life.
RITA DE CÁSSIA in black: the homeless woman with a child’s mind; she teaches more about dignity than many books do.
MALU in green: down-to-earth, big-hearted.
WELLIA in a blue bikini: Malu’s twin sister. Same face, opposite soul. One speaks, the other observes.
FABÍOLA in a vintage swimsuit: the retro one of the group. Old-school soap-opera hair and a ready quip for every situation.
VALDENES in a green shirt: the only adult man. Quiet, yet present.
SUELY in blue: she took off the judicial robe but kept the sense of justice. She believes laws without compassion are useless. Bald by choice.
MARLENE in yellow: business owner and singer.
Where do these stories take place?
Most originate in Lagoa da Italianinha, a fictional town in Pernambuco founded by Italians. It’s a place where mud turns into a barrel bath, where women walk barefoot by choice, and where a judge shares coffee with a homeless woman on the sidewalk. It’s a small town, but home to big-hearted people.
But *Breaking Boundaries* doesn't stop at the town limits.
The stories span time: we travel from the 18th century to the present day. We journey through the American War of Independence and follow the son of an American patriot who winds up in Vila Dourada—the town from which Lagoa da Italianinha would eventually gain its independence.
And there’s more: there are entire storylines set in Philadelphia and the fictional Goldenville, both in Pennsylvania. That is where Brazil connects with the USA—where a character from there understands one from here, despite speaking different languages.
What makes *Rompendo Distâncias* different?
Here, we jump into the water fully clothed. We walk barefoot. We tear our shirts. We shave our heads by choice.
Because real characters don’t wait until they’re clean to live their lives.
The mud, the bath, the wet hair... it’s all part of the story. It’s about ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
If you enjoy stories that blend Northeastern roots with an international scope, drama with hope, and the past with the present... this series is for you.
