The Convention of the Barefoot

One day, businesswoman Karla Patrícia, in Lagoa da Italianinha, managed to invite some people to a convention that would bring together the barefoot people of the city. She, who had founded the Free Feet Society, decided to hold this convention not only with the members of the society, but with everyone who loves to walk barefoot.

Mayor Myllena, a committed barefoot person, showed up with her son Mateus. Myllena and councilwoman Vanessa, one of the founders of the society, were in conflict with each other, but exchanged a light greeting. Myllena's sister, Judge Suely, was also present, with her employee Valdenes, another barefoot person. In addition to them, there were councilwoman Vanessa herself, the singer Marília do Acordeon, and the simple popsicle vendor Leila. Branco, another founder of the society, arrived later, when the meeting had already begun.

Some there shared their life experiences after adopting this barefoot lifestyle. They recounted the prejudices they suffered and even the countless times they were barred from certain places for being barefoot. Myllena joined the Society, and the mayor confessed that her dream is to found a party made up of barefoot people.

Despite being a political opponent, councilwoman Vanessa did not oppose Myllena's entry into the Society of the Barefoot. Karla Patrícia, who became the president of the Society, gave a speech:

- I want to thank my barefoot colleagues for their presence, and we must unite against all kinds of prejudice we suffer. How many times are we barred? We need to have the freedom to choose not to wear shoes. In my natural products store, all my employees walk barefoot like me. People look at us as if we were beggars, but we are not. It is our choice, and shoes should be optional, worn by those who want to, and not mandatory.

Karla Patrícia received a great deal of applause. She gave the floor to some, and Vanessa had the opportunity to speak, remembering some of the city's "historical barefoot" figures, such as Maria Clara, the Italian Giuliana, the Italian Arthur, Sister Renata Augusta, the Portuguese Mary Dee, and Valdenes' grandfather, Antônio Neto, the only surviving member of that group. Valdenes even said when they spoke of his grandfather:

- I take after him, of course.

Judge Suely also spoke and joined the Society along with her sister Myllena. Suely congratulated the initiative and said she would be a loyal activist in favor of the cause. Myllena, in turn, was radiant and excited to have joined the Society of the Free Feet; she intended to be a monthly supporter, contributing a large amount, and also to seek to bring in new members. Her son Mateus, although a convinced barefoot follower like his mother and enthusiastic, did not join the Society because he is a minor.

At the end of the Convention, Marília do Acordeon, Karla Patrícia's niece, gave a performance, entertaining everyone present.
