In Lagoa da Italianinha, young Hadassa is raised with great affection by her father, the gardener Esdras, who is a widower. Hadassa was still very young when her mother, Emma, died in a car accident between Vila Dourada and Lagoa da Italianinha.
Suspicion falls on the wicked businessman Ademar, Emma's father, who never accepted his daughter's marriage to a gardener. Ademar proved to be cold and calculating.
In the town, many admire the affection Esdras shows his daughter, always treating her with care and devotion. There is no shortage of women interested in marrying Esdras, but he doesn't consider it, prioritizing the care of his daughter.
